Message from the Committee Chairs
It has been more than thirty years since the first Symposium held in Osaka, Japan in 1986. The field of Flexible Automation has made progress in the years since; however, the requirements for products and production have also progressed, resulting in the need for us to make continuous efforts toward development in this area.
“Smart and Connected” technology concerned with IoT and AI is the new basis for the next generation of advanced manufacturing systems, in collaboration with the communication environment that we have researched for years.
I welcome you to discuss at this Symposium what sorts of Flexible Automation to realize in the near future, and how, with the use of “Smart and Connected” technology, as well as the fruits of our research efforts.
Dr. Eiji Arai, Organizing Committee Chair
Professor, Department of Manufacturing Science
